collections from home.
In the series Collections from Home the concept of home is explored through the physical location of a house and old family photos. These photographs document a moment in the history of the house while connecting the environment to individuals that have called it home.
This series allows the viewer to form a connection between the subjects in the family photographs and the physical landscape. The photos explore the idea of childhood memories and nostalgia. They become a collection of pieces from the present and past that create the idea of home. This series represents home as a place of experience, belonging, growth, and somewhere to return to.
These images also represent a story of immigrant parents that built a family in the United States. They call the United States their home to give their family a better life. This home represents their journey of hard work to give their children the place of a house to feel secure in. It is also their first permanent house of their journey in the country. Creating a home in the United States also meant leaving their home country of Mexico. While this house represents American culture, it also gives representation to the immigrants that bring culture to America and create diverse societies.
